The Mandrill is one of the largest monkeys it got its name cause it can stand on two legs for a short moment in time.
Its name Mandrill means Man-Ape and like all baboons it’s famous for its red bottom.
The Man-Ape is one of the most ferocious Monkeys/ Baboons on the planet it has over 24 teeth mostly made for ripping and chewing meats.
Its arm strength is more powerful then any average human it has a long tail which it uses to escape and capture prey in the trees.
The Baboon has several common enemies such as the Hawk, Leopard, Alligators and other Baboons.
Even though these Mammals have a ferocious reputation they are known to live in group several females and one dominant Male.
The Mandrill is found in the tropical rainforests of southern Nigeria, southern Cameroon, Gabon, Equatorial Guinea and Congo. Its distribution is bounded by the Sanaga River to the north and the Ogooué and Ivindo rivers to the east. Recent research suggests that mandrill populations north and south of the Ogooué river are genetically so different as to be different sub-species.
Did You Know ?
A large group of mandrills can cause significant damage to crops in a very short time, and where common they are widely perceived as pests.
Mandrills are hunted for food throughout their range, either with guns or using dogs and nets. In Cameroon, habitat loss to agriculture is also a threat
Although the Mandrill does not normally hunt larger prey, males have been observed to hunt and consume duiker (a small antelope).
SOME OF THE STUFF U HAD SAID ABOUT THE MANDRILL ARE INCORRECT ; LOOK UP SUM OF THE DETAILS THAT U HAVE IN UR PARAGRAGH

There are Wild Male Baboons in Wisconsin who have escaped from Animal Preserves and who have KILLED deer and other animals and may have killed humans too.
They must be hunted down and destroyed as soon as possible.
I think you should be the one they find, you jerk!!!! I HATE PEOPLE WHO HATE ANIMALS!!! I think ANYONE who abuses any animal in ANY way should be shot themselves. So to all you animal haters out there I seriously hope you all go straight to hell to be punished BY AN ANIMAL!!!!!!!!!Baboons in wisconsin? Give me a break. You kill deer too! and you ARE a predator. Hey maybe we should open up a hunting season for humans!!!! What do you think????? personaly I could wipe out all you stupid animal haters ….maybe not in a day, but close to it…..jerk!
Come on folks if you are going to reply or comment learn how to spell. I mean if you can’t spell you can’t read about these mammals correctly. As far as killing all human animal killers that is absurd. I hunt rabbit and birds, I don’t kill monkeys or anything like that. I hunt for sport and I eat what I kill so give us a break we are not all animal haters. If you love the Mandrill so much why get 5-6 and see how long before you relocate them to a zoo. What a bunch of idiots …………………Get a life
MANDRILLS WILL NOT ATTACK YOU IF YOU DON’T THREATEN THEM OR THEIR BABIES BUT IF YOU DO THREATEN THEM THEY WILL ATTACK YOU. LIKE I SAID DON’T THREATEN THEY OR THEIR BABIES AND THEY WILL NOT ATTACK YOU!!!!!!
Almost everything you said about mandrills is wrong. Mandrills are not baboons – they are now separate groups. Mandrills are omnivores, and their dentition is adapted for a wide range of diets like grass and tubers. Like baboons, they will eat meat if they can get it. Mandrills are mainly terrestrial and do not use their tails to “escape and capture prey in trees.” Mandrills and baboons are actually quite docile creatures. Occasional fights happen between males for access to females, but for the most part, mandrills are peaceful, graceful creatures.
To dana….You are absolutely right. mandrills are (mandrillas sphinx), is a primate of the circopithecidae family. Also known as old world monkeys but closly related to baboons and more so to the drill. they were once classified as genus papio, now a seperate group called genus, mandrillas. They are intelligent, docile, and they make great mothers. even though in most places they are considered pests, they were here first. Im glad they are protected.
And to ALL you pochers out there…………I SPIT ON YOU!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I watched a program on the animal channel that really made me mad at how nieve humans are. The segment took place in Africa, a male Baboon had found its way into an African home the dwelling was a hut of shorts not very protective of the human inhabitants. The male baboon had found a human baby girl and was standing over her. The mother of the child was doing some chores outside of the home when she noticed the Baboon, while I was wathcing this I became angry that their was no weopon close by for the mother to use against this best, the mother just stood there and cried, and shrieked for her poor helpless child I wish That I had been there to save the childs life, the beast killed the child. that is so needless, that is why I hate all of you animal freaks that think an animals life is worth more than a human being, a spear, or a club would have helped, better yet a .22 magnum pistole would have saved the childs life. You animal freaks rot in hell.
Not everything you see on T.V is true. I would quite understand your anger towards this animal but shooting an animal is cruel. I’m helping to save theese animals because they are on the verdge of extinction. Please help save them with me. Together we can make a difference.
animals need to live they need food and water they attack if they feel threatened or if they protect babys so if you kill them thats murder and they are going extinct so help save them they have a heart they may not be as smart as a human and they can do bad things but that does not mean we can just kill them they need to stay they need food we need food they need water we need water they do what they must to survive like us
