Vetmedin (pimobendan) by Boehringer Ingelheim is a medication that increases the ability of the heart to pump blood. It is used in dogs 6 months of age or older for the management of mild, moderate, or severe congestive heart failure due to atrioventricular valvular insufficiency or dilated cardiomyopathy. Pimobendan is in a class of heart treatments named inodilators. These medications increase the heart muscle’s ability to contract and also open up the blood vessels taking blood to and away from the heart.
