Banamine (Flunixin Meglumine) is most commonly used to treat musculoskeletal problems and the pain associated with colic. It may also be used by some veterinarians for the treatment of toxic shock. Flunixin is a nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID) that controls pain and inflammation in horses. Banamine comes in an injectable form for intravenous or intramuscular use. It can also be given orally in the paste or granule forms. Banamine is in the same category of drugs as aspirin and phenylbutazone (bute). They are all nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs. Each milliliter of Banamine Injectable Solution contains Flunixin Meglumine equivalent to 50 mg Flunixin.
